Practical guides
Drying-plan wizard
Six questions about what you are drying, how much, with what equipment and in what climate. The wizard combines the schedules, yields and safety rules from across this knowledge base into one plan — with a printable bench card for the drying room.
The wizard assembles planning figures from the food guide and schedules chapter. It does not know your dryer's real temperature, your slice thickness or today's humidity — treat the output as a hypothesis to verify with a scale, a thermometer and the feel tests in doneness testing. For jerky the lethality step is mandatory regardless of what any tool says.

Each answer selects a row from the knowledge base and feeds the same formulas used by the calculators:
| Answer | What it sets | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Product | Preparation, pretreatment, target temperature and moisture, yield ratio, safety class | food guide |
| Batch weight | Expected dry yield, water to remove, tray count | yield & load calculators |
| Equipment | Airflow assumption, rotation advice, whether a lethality step is possible | methods |
| Climate | Humidity warnings, time adjustment, ventilation advice | humidity control |
| Time available | Feasibility verdict and schedule shape | time estimator |
| Eat-within | Which safety hurdles are mandatory, storage route | food safety |
The plan is deliberately conservative. Where your answers allow an easier route (for example eating jerky within a week), the plan says so explicitly and still shows the full safe process — the shortcuts are yours to judge, not the tool's.
